Samuel Oduneye (Chief Editor / Contributor)
Bio: Samuel is a PhD candidate in the physics stream, working in MR-guided cardiac intervention or if you ask him on weekends “he’s working on mending broken hearts
”. His interests include sports, politics, networking, business, gadgets and good food (…and oh yeah science!). Originally born in Italy he moved to Canada as teenager with a bag and a dream (ok, he had a little more than that but you get the point). He envies Barack Obama’s oratorical skills and vows one day to give a speech that will move an audience to tears (of the good kind of course!). As is the case with most of his endeavours, Samuel doesn’t bring many credentials to the table besides his determination and juvenile belief that “if you want it, you have to go out and get it yourself” and “everyone deserves a shot”.

Bio: Oliver Gatalo is a first year masters student in the physics stream at OCI. “I am certainly no film critic, nor do I have an exhaustive knowledge of film, and film theory” he says, but he tries to watch anything and likes talking about movies and hearing what people honestly think about them. He believes that what makes a movie good or bad is primarily subjective, and people are entitled to like whatever they want as long as they try to give everything a chance.

Bio: Firas is a 1st year MSc. student in the physics stream working on characterizing the tumour microenvironment using Ultrasound and MR image coregistration. Besides being a run of the mill nerd, his only distinguishing feature is that he’s the ultimate Apple fanboy. His hero is Steve Jobs, not just beca use he’s the CEO of Apple but because he’s one of the best keynote speakers on the *planet*. Clad in a black turtleneck and jeans, his talks create an RDF (reality distortion field) that manage to captivate even the harshest of critics. Firas’ goal is to become a senior scientist that can captivate any audience and distort their reality.

His biggest interests include – the business of science (which I will likely be blogging about a lot), consulting (scientific and otherwise), cancer biology, video games and sports.

Bio: Anna is a second year MSc student in the Biology stream expecting to re-class into PhD in spring. She loves traveling and enjoys being outdoors. However, what she likes most is overcoming her own fears: she was afraid of heights but still went on a Zip-Line; She was terrified of water and got a scuba diving license; She is scared of fast speed, but never misses a chance to jump into the passenger seat and head to the race track. She adheres to her one life philosophy: “Work hard, play hard!”

Bio: Besides being a PhD student, Greg is an avid volleyball player, fisherman, cyclist, and destroyer of evil robots. When not in the lab he can be found pondering the meaning of life, playing Nintendo Wii, or chopping down trees with his bare hands. This blog will focus on the so-called “big picture” in science: fascinating stories, incredible discoveries, and the quirks that are found along the way
